Plastic’s endless ability to refract and distort light into infinite textures tantalises me.
For this project, seven groups of dedicated people saved all their plastic waste for me over a period of a month. What people throw away tells you a surprising amount about them. It was fascinating to come across little traces of people’s discarded identity. What they eat, what medicine they take what underwear they wear.
After gathering and cleaning it all, I sifted through it to find the most unique and beautiful pieces of plastic in each collection hidden among the inevitable salad bags and soda bottles. These were items I would never have used myself and therefore would never have added naturally to my stockpile of plastic to work with.
I manipulated each of these pieces and then photographed each to give it a whole new -- and hopefully longlasting -- identity.
